July 18, 2008 Meeting

The Four Way Test
(of the things we think, say or do):

Is it the Truth?

• Is it Fair to all
   Concerned?

• Will it Build
   Goodwill and
   Better
   Friendships?

• Will it be
   Beneficial to all
   Concerned

Pledge, Song & Invocation

After President David Lindsay led the Pledge of Allegiance, the ever-creative Mark Spencer filled in for Marie Stultz by revving up the crowd with hot dogs, beer, Red Sox paraphernalia, and a resounding chorus of "Sweet Caroline," accompanied by Neil Diamond on tape. Rev. Dave Sollars was brief in his thanks for the beautiful day and the spirit of Rotary.

Visitors & Guests

Tim Pellegrino, guest of Paul Mercandetti, today's speaker, Mark Sebell, Cole Spencer and Perrin Troiano. Felipe was due for his final meeting, but he chose to sleep in instead.

Speaker

Mark Sebell is President of Creative Realities, a company that provides inspiration to Fortune 500 companies. He gave a very informative and exciting presentation about ways to learn to think outside the box to solve problems and develop new ideas. He quoted Albert Einstein and Henry Ford and other creative thinkers in order to stimulate our creative thought processes by debunking the common "bazooka theory," which is so destructive to the creative process.

Mini Club Assembly

Mark Sebell's presentation tied in nicely to today's assignment of coming up with suggestions for this year's fundraising event. Each table had a captain and a list of questions about what would be an effective and fun way to promote our club while raising the money needed to support our projects.

In addition to the current auction format, other suggestions included returning to a live televised auction, a dance, a talent show to include community members who might pay an entrance fee to participate, pie- and tomato-throwing contest, etc. The idea for any program or programs is to make money while having fun and raising community awareness, and have complete club participation. Peter Cotch is putting together his committee and will use the suggestions to come up with viable options for our fundraiser(s).

Raffle

Richard Brenner picked the higher card today and took home the $10 consolation prize.

Sergeant-at-Arms

Happy Bucks today mostly consisted of praise for Mark Sebell's presentation and the creative suggestions that arose from it. There were a few farewells to Felipe, but he was out of earshot!

NOTE of apology

Apologies for today's abbreviated Newsletter. A mix-up in reporter assignment and a bit of memory lapse are the culprits. We'll be back on track next week!
